IBPS AFO Prelims Exam Pattern

Before diving into the topics, let’s look at the structure. The Prelims is an objective-type online exam with three sections.

Important Note: The marks obtained in the Preliminary examination are qualifying in nature and are not added to the final merit list. You just need to clear the sectional and overall cut-offs.

Target Score: 25+ Marks

2. Reasoning Ability

Target Score: 25+ Marks

This section tests your logical thinking. Puzzles dominate this section, but they are time-consuming. Balance them with “Miscellaneous” topics.

This is often the toughest section for many agriculture students. Remember, you don’t need to be a Shakespeare; you just need to clear the cutoff.

    • Reading Comprehension (RC): (Usually based on Economy, Agriculture, or Social Issues)
    • Cloze Test (Fill in the blanks in a passage)
    • Para Jumbles (Sentence Rearrangement)
  • Grammar & Vocabulary:

IBPS AFO Interview Phase:

Once you clear the Mains examination, you will be called for the Interview. This stage is not just about your knowledge but your personality, communication skills, and suitability for the role of a Bank Officer.

1. Weightage & Scoring

  • Total Marks: 100
  • Weightage: The final merit list is prepared on an 80:20 ratio (Mains Score : Interview Score).
  • Qualifying Marks: You must score a minimum of 40% (General Category) or 35% (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD) to qualify.

2. Key Areas of Questioning

  • Personal (HR): “Tell us about yourself,” “Why do you want to join banking after Agriculture?”, Strengths & Weaknesses.
  • Technical (Agriculture): Basics of Agronomy, Soil Science, current MSP rates, and major crops of your home state.
  • Banking Awareness: Questions on Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Priority Sector Lending (PSL), NPA (Non-Performing Assets), and functions of NABARD/RBI.
  • Situational: “How will you recover a loan from a distressed farmer?”

3. Document Verification (DV) Before entering the interview room, your documents (Degree, Marksheets, Caste Certificate, etc.) are verified. Any discrepancy here can lead to immediate disqualification.

4. Panel & Duration

  • The panel usually consists of 4-5 members.
  • The interview typically lasts for 10 to 20 minutes.
