The tallest tree in the world is Hyperion and has botanical name Sequoia sempervirens and it belongs to the family Cupressaceae.

It is also known as coast redwood, coastal redwood and California redwood.

This plant is located in Redwood National Park in Northern California. The exact location of Hyperion is kept secret.

Location

As of 2019, Hyperion was 380 feet, 9.7 inches (116.07 meters) tall and its trunk is 16 feet (4.94 meters) in diameter. It contains 530 m3 of wood.

It's age is estimated to be between 600 and 800 years old.

This tree was discovered in 2006 by two naturalists and confirmed by redwood expert Stephen Silet, an American Botanist.

For the protection of the tree and surrounding old growth redwood forest, entry to the hikers, climbers, tree enthusiasts is not permitted and if someone tries to violate the rule, $5000 will be fined.
